30 day wellness challenge
Is your daily life filled with a whole range of negative emotions? Perhaps you’re afraid, angry, frustrated, bored? I’m feeling it too, so I wanted to do something to help us all release those negative emotions and bring in some much needed positivity!
WHY should you do it?
We are all living in “flight or flight” mode (sympathetic nervous system) now more than ever. When you’re in this state, the body is releasing 500 bad chemicals into your system — YIKES! So, we need to flip the switch into “rest and digest” mode (parasympathetic nervous system), which will release good chemicals. When you’re in a more relaxed state, you will not only feel better, you will improve your health, vitality and well being.
WHAT is it?
My "30 Day Wellness Challenge" will take you out of "fight or flight" mode and into "rest and digest" mode. The challenge entails spending a total of 8 hours a month (only 16 minutes a day!) on one or a combination of these 3 practices:
Breathing Exercises (slow and regular breathing into your belly, not your chest)
Energy Movement (Qigong, Tai Chi, yoga or twists)
Meditation (a style such as focused breathing, mantra repetition or guided audio)
It is scientifically proven that 8 hours of meditation changes your actual DNA. That’s right — after 8 cumulative hours you have a completely different physical and mental well being!
So, do it with your kids, your spouse, your family. Get all the people you love involved so you can ALL feel good. And most importantly, support each other. Are you in?
HOW can you do it?
Watch my Instagram video to get some tips on HOW to do these techniques. Here’s what you’ll see:
Proper Breathing Exercises
Breath into your belly and not your chest. When you breathe into your chest, your body thinks you’re in “fight or flight.” Belly breathing tells your body “it’s ok” and allows you to relax.
Energy Movement
Now is the perfect time to start a simple at-home practice like yoga, Qiqong or Tai Chi. It doesn’t have to be intense — just learn a few easy poses and incorporate them into your day. Want to do something even simpler? Do twists! The nervous system loves twists (especially when you breathe into your belly while doing them!).
Meditation
Everyone always says “No, I can’t do it!” But it’s not true — you CAN meditate! The fact is, your brain IS going to think because that’s what it’s designed to do. So don’t go into meditation with the belief that you’re supposed to “not think.” Here’s a tip: simply set a timer for one minute and just focus on your breathing. Next time, try 3 minutes.
