5 Quick Tips to Protect Your Hair from the Sun

1.) Bring a travel size container of a hair protection product to the beach or pool.

This will not only protect your hair from the sun throughout the day, but also from the salt water or chlorine. Be sure to re-apply often and every time you get out of the water!

2.) Use a hairspray with SPF.

You’ll get great hold, while at the same time getting a UV protectant for when you step out the door into the summer sun and on your way to work or a cook-out, or while running errands. It’s also a great all-over product to protect color-treated hair and highlights.

3.) Use a shampoo and conditioner that protect hair from sun damage.

All that sun, chlorine and salt water can dry out and diminish the vibrancy of color-treated hair. Special formulas in these products will moisturize and protects the depth, tone and shine of your hair, and keep it looking beautiful longer.

4.) Treat your hair with a protein spray.

Chemicals, chlorinated and salt water, UV exposure, wind, flat ironing and blow-drying all can strip hair’s natural lipids, leaving hair brittle, weak and unmanageable. You’ll also notice that your color will hold truer longer and have more shine, despite all these everyday stresses on your hair.

5.) Wear a hat.

Products alone can’t protect you 100% from the damaging effects of the sun. So, when you can, tuck all your hair under a hat that has a wide brim all around. Make sure it’s made of a tightly-woven, heavy-weight fabric (or has a lining) because light, mesh fabric may allow UV radiation to sneak through and still cause sun damage. Go ahead – be fashionable! You’ll look fabulous and, in the long run, your hair will too!
